Every year, we remind you to get your flu shot. However, this year, in the midst of the global pandemic, it is more important than ever to take measures to protect yourself from the flu.

Why a Flu Vaccine Is Extra Important This Year

The flu has symptoms that are very similar to COVID-19. To avoid having to be tested for COVID-19, it is essential that you take the vaccine to prevent a case of the flu. Many health facilities are already stretched to maximum capacity treating COVID-19, and the equipment required to treat these two diseases is the same and includes things like respirators, oxygen, etc.

To improve the odds for all patients – those with the flu and those with COVID-19 – prevention is key. Remember to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your face, and this year, make sure to wear a mask any time you are in public.

Getting Your Shot This Year

Receiving a shot this year requires just a bit of extra preparation. Contact us to make an appointment. Make sure that all patients visiting the office are wearing masks. This includes any children that you might be bringing, or anyone else, even if they are not receiving the vaccine. If you have friends and family who are not receiving a shot, you can have them wait in the car while you are in the office.

Flu vaccinations are available through a Brevard Health Alliance location near you. For a list of our locations, visit ourwebsite.
